Wait Eagerly on the Lord
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:27-28
Beloved,
There are many things that we look forward to in this life. God is a giver of good gifts. As parents, many of us have been eagerly waiting for our children to start school. As football fans, many of us have been eagerly waiting for the college and pro football seasons to start. As sportsmen, many of us have been eagerly waiting the start of hunting season. But are we eagerly waiting for Jesus?
As a Christian, we should be eagerly waiting on the salvation given to us in Christ. As Christians, we do not fear judgment because Jesus Christ has already been offered once to bear our sins. So we do not wait in trepidation, but we eagerly wait for him to save our souls. I love that promise that the Lord has given us that he will not come again to deal with our sin, but to save those of us who are eagerly waiting for him.
Beloved, is Jesus our greatest hope and expectation? Are you eagerly waiting for Him? It is easy to get excited with the good things God has given us (children, sports, activities, etc.) while minimizing that which is best: our glorious King, the Lord Jesus Christ. So let us rejoice in the things that God have given us, but let us rejoice even more so in the salvation given to us in Christ Jesus. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed (1 Peter 2:24).”
In Christ,
Pastor Dave
