“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.19A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” Psalm 34:17-19
Beloved,
We live in a fallen world. The one thing our world guarantees is pain and affliction. Everyone will face heartache and trials throughout their lives. Although we will all face troubles, the Lord will
deliver the righteous from every one of them. The Lord uses our trials to shows us our desperate need for him and for his grace. “The brokenhearted and the crushed in spirit” is a Hebrew expression which shows when the pride and stubbornness of the heart is being humbled. God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. The Lord does not promise to deliver everyone from trials, but only the righteous; the ones whose hearts have been rooted from stubbornness and pride. For the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
So in our trials do we call out to the Lord in a humble spirit for help and mercy or in our pride are we embittered against Him? The Lord does not promise that his children will not experience troubles, but he does promise to deliver them from them all. “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim 3:12). Troubles and afflictions are part of this world. I know many of you are battling through trials this very day, but take heart, the Lord hears the cries of the righteous and he delivers them from all their troubles. Christian, listen to the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:1-2). We must wait on the deliverance of our Lord either in this life or in the life to come.
Friends, do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God. Trust in the words of our Savior Jesus Christ. The Lord is faithful to his word. In the midst of trial take refuge in the Lord and his precious promises. He is Faithful and True (Rev 19:11).
