Trust in the LORD

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

The first Scripture verse I ever memorized was Proverbs 3:5-6. This verse holds a special place in my heart, and, this week, my love for this Scripture rekindled since it’s our theme verse for Vacation Bible School. We’re encouraging our children to hear as “Wisdom Calls Aloud”!! What a precious opportunity to encourage young hearts to trust in the Lord with all their hearts.

Why is it hard to trust in the Lord? Many reasons come to mind, but one of the main ones is that we forget how good God is and how good God is to us. God delights in giving good gifts to his children. He rejoices when his children walk in the truth. God is slow to anger. He’s abounding in steadfast love. If God is for us, who can be against us? As our world experiences pain and suffering, we should have confidence in the strength and the righteous character of our God. There are so many things that may cause us to doubt, but we must never lose sight of the awesome God we serve.

Children need to learn to trust God before they obey God. One of the gifts of parenting is that we train our children to trust God as much as they rely on our care and provision for them. We are dim reflections of the care and provision God provides for us. Vacation Bible School is a week where we teach our children to be mindful and trust in the holy and righteous nature of our Lord. We should trust in God, because God is trustworthy!! We should praise Him, because God is praiseworthy.

We’ll never fully comprehend everything that life throws at us, but we are not called to lean on our own understanding. We are called rather to acknowledge Him in all things. We must recognize his goodness, his holiness, his power, his grace, his mercy, and his love. We acknowledge Him as THE ONE worthy of our trust.  Beloved, pray for our children this week that God will enlighten their hearts and teach them faith. Pray that they’ll see God as trustworthy. Pray that all will begin to trust the Lord as their savior and love Him with all their heart. This is the beginning of their relationship with God!

VBS is a great opportunity to share the glory of our great God with young ones. Please pray for our children and our leaders this week that God encourages all to trust Him more. Please pray for and thank Bobby and Jennie Shellenberger for all their labors. Pray to make VBS another life-changing week for our church family and community. Pray that everybody’s work and faith will bear eternal fruit.
